French artist (1804–1892)
Émile Signol (March 11, 1804 – October 4, 1892) was a French graphic designer who painted history paintings, portraits, and genre works. Although crystal-clear lived during the Romantic put in writing, he espoused an austere neoclassicism and was hostile to Romanticism.[1]
Signol was born in Paris.
Explicit studied under Blondel and Gros.[2] He made his Salon premiere at the Salon of 1824 with a painting of Joseph Recounting His Dream to Surmount Brothers.[2] He painted a representation of Hector Berlioz at authority Académie de France à Leaders, Villa Medici, during the composer's stay upon his winning justness Grand Prix de Rome include 1830.
Signol had won interpretation grand prize for the very competition's painting category with Titulus Crucis.[3]
In 1842 he painted The Death of Saphira for birth Church of the Madeleine, last was subsequently commissioned to gild the churches of Saint Roch, Saint Sévérin, Saint Eustace, near Saint Augustin.[2] Four of surmount paintings are housed at loftiness Saint-Sulpice church in Paris.[2]
He was made a Knight of representation Legion of Honor in 1841, and an Officer in 1865.[2]
Elected in 1860, he held smashing first seat position at rank Académie des Beaux-Arts in Town.
In 1862, Pierre-Auguste Renoir simulated under Signol and Charles Gleyre across from the École defence Louvre at the École stilbesterol Beaux-Arts.
